Vertex is one of our newer pen models. With a hexagon front and back end, this click pen is very "mechanical" in appearance. The model is available in 24k Gold, Chrome, Brushed Satin Silver and Gunmetal like this example.

Gunmetal plate was the perfect choice to match up with this beautiful piece of diagonal cut Spalted Hackberry. Hackberry is a medium hard wood that grows in areas of Canada and the US. The sapwood sometimes can be stained by its own sap which gives it a slightly blue-grey coloration. 

But the main feature in this writing instrument is the spalting. Spalting is an initial stage in the decay of the wood and how each different wood "spalts" differs from species to species.  In this Hackberry the spalting moved through the wood's grain causing a spalt pattern resembling the fine down feathers on a duck's breast along with the typical random black lines.

The hexagon components make a really striking "mechanical" click pen that, by the way, is not very likely to roll away.
